Ambiguous outer joins cause run-time error 3258
Article ID: SFKB0007
Last Reviewed:   August 18, 1997
Applies To:   SPEED Ferret 3.0  (SPEED Ferret for Access 97/VB5)

Symptoms

SPEED Ferret fails to start, and reports "Run-time error 3258: The SQL statement couldn't be executed because it contains ambiguous outer joins. To force one of the joins to be performed first, create a separate query that performs the first join and then include that query in your SQL statement."

Context: sfac80.Query.Initialize

Cause

Your database contains one or more queries containing ambiguous outer joins.

Solution

Download and install the Revision B Update to SPEED Ferret for Access 97. Under Revision B, queries having ambiguous outer joins no longer prevent SPEED Ferret from starting. Such queries are simply added to the inspection errors log.
