| Shift key irregularity after activating an Access database | ||||||
SymptomsAfter an Access database is activated by SPEED Ferret, the action of the Shift key may be reversed. CauseSPEED Ferret's Access 97 and Access 2000 drivers use a Windows API function call to simulate the pressing of the Shift key while opening a database in order to prevent the execution of an AutoExec macro or Startup Form. On a small number of systems running Windows NT4 or Windows 2000, the operating system occasionally fails to acknowledge SPEED Ferret's simulated release of the Shift key. After SPEED Ferret has "released" the Shift key, the operating system continues to treat all future keystrokes and mouse clicks as though the Shift key were still depressed. RecoveryIf your Shift key is currently behaving erratically as a result of this problem, you will need to restart your computer in order for the operating system to recognize that the Shift key is no longer depressed. WorkaroundOpen your database(s) manually in Access prior to searching them with SPEED Ferret. This will eliminate the need for SPEED Ferret to open the database(s), thereby preventing the simulated keystrokes which trigger the problem. |
